Students of the "Master in International Management" degree program at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne and their partner ABB (ABB is a pioneering technology leader that works closely with utility, industry, transportation and infrastructure customers to write the future of industrial digitalization and realize value ) have successfully developed an analysis platform that uses Artificial Intelligence to help predict growth potential in ABB's key markets.
In December 2017, at the annual graduation ceremony of the CEMS Master in International Management in Sydney, the Cologne student team was awarded the prize for the best business project. The award follows a detailed selection and evaluation process of all submitted projects.

Dr. Max Backhaus has won the 2017 Schmalenbach Award. The Schmalenbach Award is one of the most prestigious dissertation awards in Germany. The Schmalenbach Stiftung awards a prize for outstanding scientific papers from the field of business research in conjunction with the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft e.V. and the German Academic Association for Business research. Dr. Max Backhaus has been awarded for his doctoral thesis "Econometric Essays on Protecting, Benefiting, and Growing from Customer-based Brand Equity". In his thesis, he answers the question of whether a crisis event has a negative effect on the course of brand perception in the subsequent weeks of the crisis.

H.E. Gurjit Singh, Ambassador of India to Germany, visited the University of Cologne on August 8th, 2016. Together with the Second Secretary of the Embassy and Consul Kiran Khatri from Frankfurt, the high-ranking visitors were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Michael Bollig, Vice-Speaker for the Global South Studies Center, Dr Stefan Bildhauer, Ms. Sarah Marleen Danneberg and the International Office of the University of Cologne. The focus of the meeting was to get an overview of the India related activities both in the field of research and in terms of international student support services, such as exchange programs and summer schools. Furthermore, the Ambassador met 10 Indian students who are currently studying at the University of Cologne, either for a semester or their full-time Master's or doctoral degree. The University of Cologne (UoC) Indian Summer School in Himalayas project was launched by the UoC International Office in August 2015 with the idea to impart knowledge at the inter-cultural level along with the educational level. Students from various faculties and different study areas of UoC and China-NRW Alliance Universities, such as University of Muenster, University of Wuppertal and TU-Dortmund participate in the summer school. In order to give insight about the rich cultural heritage and beauty of India, various activities such as academic and tourist excursions, lectures, Hindi language lessons for beginners, yoga, etc. are offered. The first ever 2-week summer school organised by UoC International Office and UoC India Regional Branch office took place in August-September 2015.

Climate change, urbanization, industry advancement and associated pollution, and growing world population are constantly raising the demand for water resources. Water scarcity has increasingly received attention as being a severe threat to human well-being and to the safety of the planet.In India and in Germany, scholars and practitioners stress the need for a new paradigm in water management and governance, the overarching goal in the water domain being water security.The DWIH flagship annual symposium ‘WaterScapes’ aims at bringing together eminent scholars, leading experts and practitioners from Germany and India.

A workshop for researchers and policy-makers on skill development and training in India with the topic  "The cooperation of policy and research in the field of school to work transition, skill formation and vocational education and training in India – What can we learn from each other?” 
was held on the  24th and 25th of October 2017 at the German House, 2 Nyaya Marg, Chankayapuri, New Delhi.

Oliver Cornelly is a Professor of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne and currently holds the position of Director of Translational Research. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Oliver Cornely, the Translational Platform at CECAD systematically searches for findings from basic research that can be translated into promising clinical projects. He had recently participated in a Conference held in Ranchi called MICROCON 2017 for a period of 5 days, from the 22nd - 26th of November 2017.

The 11th Werner Kern Prize for Production Management Research for the years 2015 and 2016 was awarded to Dr. Karina Copil for her dissertation at the Seminar for Supply Chain Management and Production "Capacitated Lot-Sizing and Scheduling with Scarce Setup Resources" at the scientific autumn conference of the Commission Production Management at the Association of University Teachers for Business Administration on 10 November 2017 at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg.
