(New Delhi, 27.6.2013) Starting July 1st 2013, “Humboldt Fellow” Dr. Alexander P. Hansen, will take over as Director, German Research Foundation (DFG), India Office and Coordinator of The German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi.
At a ceremony held on 25th June, 2013, attended by Heads of Indian Universities and Research Institutes, foreign diplomats and representatives of the German and Indian research administration, Dr. Torsten Fischer bid Adieu to India to return back to Germany after heading the German Research Foundation (DFG) India Office as Director for four years and as the founding Coordinator of The German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi.
DFG India Office, over the past years, has played an important role in Indo-German research cooperation. This was made possible by the efforts made from both the DFG and its Indian partner organizations, particularly with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), University Grants Commission (UGC), Indian Council for Scientific Research (ICSSR) and Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).
The bridges of scientific cooperation built by Dr. Fischer and his team at the DFG will be further extended and strengthened by his successor Dr. Alexander P. Hansen who has more than 25 years experience in pure research as well as scientific management and administration with special focus on South and South East Asia.
Dr. Hansen completed MSc´s in Environmental Science and Geography in the United States and Germany before being awarded a PhD in Biology (Botany) from the University of Western Australia in 1986.
Dr. Hansen left Paris where he worked for almost three years as Senior Advisor to the International Social Science Council (ISSC) & International Council for Science (ICSU), to take over this new responsibility.
