Under the umbrella of the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) in New Delhi, prominent institutes from Germany and India, intend to conduct several Indo-German workshops in India that focus on the potentials and the challenges of the concept of smart cities. The events will be coordinated by the Heidelberg Centre South Asia (Branch Office of the Heidelberg University in India), supported by Friedrich Naumann Foundation and are part of a series of pre-events leading to the DWIH annual conference CityScapes, which will take place between September 29th and October 1st, 2016 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Under the umbrella of the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) in New Delhi, prominent institutes from Germany and India, intend to conduct several Indo-German workshops in India that focus on the potentials and the challenges of the concept of smart cities. The events will be coordinated by the Heidelberg Centre South Asia (Branch Office of the Heidelberg University in India), supported by Friedrich Naumann Foundation and are part of a series of pre-events leading to the DWIH annual conference CityScapes, which will take place between September 29th and October 1st, 2016 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

The 7th Indo-German Energy Forum, under the co-chairmapship of  Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Pujari and State Secretary, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Government of Germany, Mr. Rainer Baake will be held on 29 September 2016 in Berlin, Germany.

The Indo-German Energy Forum, initiated by the German Chancellor and Indian Prime Minister in April 2006, provides a platform for high level policy makers and representatives from industry, associations, financial institutions and research organizations from both India and Germany.
The meeting provides a unique opportunity for public and private sector stakeholders to convene and develop a common understanding of the most promising opportunities for Indo-German cooperation in the energy sector.

The ongoing partnership between the University of Cologne and BVIEER Pune offered yet another outstanding cultural and academic experience for eleven students from the International Master of Environmental Science and Law program at the University of Cologne, as the students traveled to India in early March. The Cologne students collaborated with approximately forty students from BVIEER Pune as they journeyed to Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) in the South Indian state of Kerala for a research excursion. The students gained valuable field experience as they answered various research questions about PTR by interviewing local villagers living in the immediate area surrounding the park.

A joint summer school will be conducted by Dr. Alexander Follman, Researcher and Lecturer, Institute of Geography, University of Cologne. A group of UoC students will take part in the summer school in early October 2016 at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The summer school includes fieldwork in the megacity of Delhi. The summer school will explore the natural and cultural heritage of Delhi with a special focus on the floodplain of the river Yamuna and peri-urban ares. The focus lies on the expansion and intensification of urban and peri-urban agriculture.

Dr. Alexander Follman, Researcher and Lecturer, Institute of Geography, University of cologne, will be visiting Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi, in September - October 2016 for a short term lectureship and fieldwork. The field work would be a part of the Summer school "Natural and Cultural heritage" in Delhi. It will include preparation and analysis seminar at JNU and fieldwork in the megacity of Delhi. The Summer School will explore the natural and cultural heritage of Delhi with a special focus on the floodplain of the river Yamuna and peri-urban areas .The thematic focus lies on the expansion and intensification of urban and peri-urban agriculture.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, signed an Implementation Agreement for a new Indo-German Development Cooperation project on “Sustainable Environment-friendly Industrial Production” (SEIP) on 16 June, 2016.

The agreement was signed by Mr. A.K. Mehta, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) MoEFCC and Dr. Wolfgang Hannig, Country Director, GIZ India, in the presence of Ms. S Dorasil, Counsellor / Head of Department (Economic Cooperation and Development) from the German Embassy.

The German House for Research and Innovation – DWIH New Delhi organized a workshop on “Need of Sustainable Cities” during the ''Stuttgart meets Mumbai'' intercultural get-together and wine festival at Taj Lands End, Mumbai held on 22nd and 23rd January 2016.
