Sustainable Development

Prof. Ranjit Mitra from the School for Planning and Architecture Delhi, is on a short term Guest lecture visit to Institute of Geography, at the University of Cologne, in October and November 2016.

The topics of lectures include Perspectives of Urbanism in India, Critical Development of Urban Policies in India, Communalism and Social Change in India, The Indian Growth Scenario: Ecological Consequences and Policies.

The DWIH conference on "CityScapes" was held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi from 29th September 2016 to 1st October 2016. The concept of CityScapes Conference was to address the various harmonious solutions to tackle the global challenges of migration and sustainable urbanization.

The keynote speech of the Conference was delivered by University of Cologne Professor, Prof. Dr Frauke Kraas, Department of Geography.

Under the joint umbrella of the European Science, Technology and Innovation Platform in India (EU STI Platform) and the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH), Heidelberg Centre South Asia (HCSA), BayIND (Bavarian-Indian Centre), Fraunhofer India and EU STI, will conduct an international workshop on ‘Smart City: Mobility, Infrastructure and Energy’ at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar, Bangalore, on September 16.

This workshop is part of a series of pre-events leading to the German House for Research and Innovation (www.dwih.in) annual conference CityScapes, which will take place between September 29th and October 1st, 2016 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Sustainable Best Practices in Water and Waste Management

Water and waste are, besides power, the most valuable resources for a sustainable lifestyle. Every individual and every company is responsible for not only providing high quality and sustainable products and services but also for avoiding environmental pollution through inefficient and unsustainable measures related to water- and waste management for the health and well-being of society at large.

The German House for Research and Innovation – DWIH New Delhi organized a workshop on “Need of Sustainable Cities” during the ''Stuttgart meets Mumbai'' intercultural get-together and wine festival at Taj Lands End, Mumbai held on 22nd and 23rd January 2016.

Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Jörg Hacker, President, German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina presented a lecture on the topic “Science and Society – Infectious Diseases as an Example” on 4th February 2016 at the German House, New Delhi. The lecture was conducted under the banner of Science Circle Lecture series and was jointly organized by the German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi, the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in India and the German National Academy of Sciences – Leopoldina.
