Under the umbrella of the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) in New Delhi, prominent institutes from Germany and India, intend to conduct several Indo-German workshops in India that focus on the potentials and the challenges of the concept of smart cities. The events will be coordinated by the Heidelberg Centre South Asia (Branch Office of the Heidelberg University in India), supported by Friedrich Naumann Foundation and are part of a series of pre-events leading to the DWIH annual conference CityScapes, which will take place between September 29th and October 1st, 2016 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Sustainable Best Practices in Water and Waste Management

Delegation Trip to Germany from 30th May, 2016 to 4th June, 2016

Water and waste are, besides power, the most valuable resources for a sustainable lifestyle. Every individual and every company is responsible for not only providing high quality and sustainable products and services but also for avoiding environmental pollution through inefficient and unsustainable measures related to water- and waste management for the health and well-being of society at large.

The German House for Research and Innovation – DWIH New Delhi organized a workshop on “Need of Sustainable Cities” during the ''Stuttgart meets Mumbai'' intercultural get-together and wine festival at Taj Lands End, Mumbai held on 22nd and 23rd January 2016.

Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Jörg Hacker, President, German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina presented a lecture on the topic “Science and Society – Infectious Diseases as an Example” on 4th February 2016 at the German House, New Delhi. The lecture was conducted under the banner of Science Circle Lecture series and was jointly organized by the German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi, the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in India and the German National Academy of Sciences – Leopoldina.

Excellent research collaboration opportunities

About us

GIZ and Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) are collaborating on ‘Capacity enhancement on preparation of City Sanitation Plan (CSP) and Septage Management’ for city officials. The two year partnership (2014-16) is part of the GIZ Sustainable Habitat Programme –Support to National Urban Sanitation Policy (SNUSP) II, aimed at improving the sanitation situation in small and medium towns in select states of India namely – Andhra Pradesh/ Telengana, Kerala and Maharashtra.

The Institute of Environment Education and Research-Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune (BVIEER), the Univeristy of Cologne, Germany (UoC), Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit(GIZ) GmbH, India;and the German House for Reserach and Innovation (DWIH), New Delhi are organising an `International Symposium on ‘Knowledge Sharing For Capacity Building For Planning of Sustainable Cities’ in Pune, India from 8-10 October 2014. 

The main objectives of the symposium are:

As the run-up to the 1st BION conference on “Biodiversity Today for Tomorrow”, the DAAD is funding two special alumni seminars at the University of Göttingen and University of Bonn. Participation is open to German university alumni active in relevant subject fields.
