Students of the "Master in International Management" degree program at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Cologne and their partner ABB (ABB is a pioneering technology leader that works closely with utility, industry, transportation and infrastructure customers to write the future of industrial digitalization and realize value ) have successfully developed an analysis platform that uses Artificial Intelligence to help predict growth potential in ABB's key markets.
In December 2017, at the annual graduation ceremony of the CEMS Master in International Management in Sydney, the Cologne student team was awarded the prize for the best business project. The award follows a detailed selection and evaluation process of all submitted projects.

Dr. Max Backhaus has won the 2017 Schmalenbach Award. The Schmalenbach Award is one of the most prestigious dissertation awards in Germany. The Schmalenbach Stiftung awards a prize for outstanding scientific papers from the field of business research in conjunction with the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft e.V. and the German Academic Association for Business research. Dr. Max Backhaus has been awarded for his doctoral thesis "Econometric Essays on Protecting, Benefiting, and Growing from Customer-based Brand Equity". In his thesis, he answers the question of whether a crisis event has a negative effect on the course of brand perception in the subsequent weeks of the crisis.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany signed an agreement on technical cooperation under the “Indo-German Energy Programme – Green Energy Corridors (IGEN-GEC)” on 28.08.2017 in New Delhi. The main objective of this programme component is to improve the sector framework and conditions for grid integration of renewable energy in India. 

In the distinguished presence of Mr Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Government of India and Dr. Martin Ney, the German Ambassador to India, the agreement was signed at the Shram Shakti Bhawan, Ministry of Power, New Delhi by Dr Wolfgang Hannig, Country Director, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India and Mr A.N. Sharan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

Oliver Cornelly is a Professor of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne and currently holds the position of Director of Translational Research. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Oliver Cornely, the Translational Platform at CECAD systematically searches for findings from basic research that can be translated into promising clinical projects. He had recently participated in a Conference held in Ranchi called MICROCON 2017 for a period of 5 days, from the 22nd - 26th of November 2017.

The 11th Werner Kern Prize for Production Management Research for the years 2015 and 2016 was awarded to Dr. Karina Copil for her dissertation at the Seminar for Supply Chain Management and Production "Capacitated Lot-Sizing and Scheduling with Scarce Setup Resources" at the scientific autumn conference of the Commission Production Management at the Association of University Teachers for Business Administration on 10 November 2017 at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg.

At the award ceremony with vice chancellor Axel Freimuth the University of Cologne paid tribute to five outstanding researchers for their excellence in research. We are happy that among the awardees are two of our School’s professors: Matthias Heinz (photo: on the left) and Matthias Sutter (third one from the right).

Christoph Stosch is a Professor of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne and is a renowned Physician, Master of Medical Education, Dr. h.c. (RUS). He is currently holding the position as Advisor for Teaching, Learning and Academic Reform; Head of the Cologne Interporfessional Skills Lab and Simulation Centre (KISS). He has contributed immensely to the field of Pedagogy which deals in holistic science of education.

He had recently made a trip to the All India Institute of  Medical Sciences (New Delhi) on the 23rd and 24th of November 2017. The trip proved immensely beneficial as it helped better the ties between the two institutions and helped understanding the holistic approach of socialising and upbringing children and young people.

Oliver Cornelly is a Professor of the Medical Faculty of University Of Cologne and currently holds the position of Director of Translational Research. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Oliver Cornely, the Translational Platform at CECAD systematically searches for findings from basic research that can be translated into promising clinical projects. It serves as a highly dynamic catalyst for collaboration between basic researchers and clinicians. The goal is to maximize the transfer of findings from basic research to realize CECAD’s vision of developing novel solutions for aging-associated diseases.

In the highly competitive world of research, it is often difficult for young researchers to compete with the researchers with proven research track records and established research contacts for common funding modules. Hence, the importance of opportunities for “Early-Stage researchers” and “Early Career Researchers” has increased manifold in order to keep the interest of young researchers in science.

 

International research team has, for the first time, detected traces of Freon-40 in a young stellar system and comets with Cologne participation / publication in "Nature Astronomy"

 

A research team with scientists from among others from Cambridge / Massachusetts, Copenhagen and Cologne has for the first time demonstrated a significant concentration of Freon-40 in a young star system about 400 years ago. The high-resolution images of the ALMA radiotelescopes in the Chilean Atacama desert as well as data from the ROSINA mass spectrometer from the Rosetta space mission served as a data basis.
