The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany signed an agreement on technical cooperation under the “Indo-German Energy Programme – Green Energy Corridors (IGEN-GEC)” on 28.08.2017 in New Delhi. The main objective of this programme component is to improve the sector framework and conditions for grid integration of renewable energy in India. 

In the distinguished presence of Mr Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Government of India and Dr. Martin Ney, the German Ambassador to India, the agreement was signed at the Shram Shakti Bhawan, Ministry of Power, New Delhi by Dr Wolfgang Hannig, Country Director, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India and Mr A.N. Sharan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), an autonomous and statutory body of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany signed an agreement on technical cooperation under the “ Access and Benefit Sharing Partnership Project (ABS) ” on 09.11.2017 in Chennai.

The agreement was signed by Dr. B. Meenakumari, Chairperson of National Biodiversity Authority, Chennai; and Dr. Konrad Uebelhoer, Director, Indo-German Biodiversity Programme. 
Speaking on the occasion Dr Uebelhoer said “we had a very constructive meeting with the NBA and SBBs (State Biodiversity Board) and we hope that the positive mood that guided all our discussions today will smoothly carry our project forward".

At the award ceremony with vice chancellor Axel Freimuth the University of Cologne paid tribute to five outstanding researchers for their excellence in research. We are happy that among the awardees are two of our School’s professors: Matthias Heinz (photo: on the left) and Matthias Sutter (third one from the right).

Heidelberg Centre South Asia, South Asia Institute, Indian Institute for Tropical Meteorology, Indian Chest Foundation, both in Pune, and the Health and Demographic Research Center in Vadu, in collaboration with Friedrich Naumann Foundation, organized a workshop on ‘Urbanisation, Climate Change and Health’, part of HCSA series of initiatives and events on Smart Cities. Under the joint umbrella of the European Science, Technology and Innovation Platform in India (EU STI Platform) and the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH), Heidelberg Centre South Asia (HCSA), BayIND (Bavarian-Indian Centre), Fraunhofer India and EU STI, will conduct an international workshop on ‘Smart City: Mobility, Infrastructure and Energy’ at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar, Bangalore, on September 16.

This workshop is part of a series of pre-events leading to the German House for Research and Innovation (www.dwih.in) annual conference CityScapes, which will take place between September 29th and October 1st, 2016 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
